Conferences
One of the primary functions of the Strategic Management Society is to convene and conduct meetings and conferences for professionals in the field of strategic management. Each conference addresses a current theme and brings together over 1,000 scholars and practitioners from all over the world to present, participate, and exchange ideas.

Research Funding
The promotion and encouragement of research and scholarship is another of SMS’ primary purposes. In support of this goal, the Society operates the Strategy Research Foundation (SRF) programs to award research grants to individuals or groups identified through a competitive application and review process.

The SMS recognizes and honors those who have made significant contributions to the theory and practice of strategic management, such as emerging scholars in the field, business leaders that have demonstrated strategic leadership and innovation, and articles published that have notable impact, through the SMS Awards program, Conference Paper Prizes, Journal Paper Prizes, and the SMS Fellows.

The SMS Interest Groups and Communities act as a catalyst for building and disseminating new ideas in research, practice, and teaching around a set of core issues in strategic management.

Our members represent regions throughout the world, with 45% from North America, 33% from Europe, 15% from Asia, and 7% from Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East and Africa. 24% of SMS members are doctoral students from schools around the world.
SMS membership is open to individuals actively involved in the field of strategic management. Membership runs on a calendar year (January 1 - December 31) basis and does not automatically renew.
